5 Things I love about Nursing

I complain a lot about my job. I started working as a nurse in the middle of the pandemic, and let’s just say it left me a bit jaded. But I heard that gratitude is pretty good medicine, so let’s give it a shot.
Here are 5 things I love about being a nurse.
- Wearing pajamas…I mean scrubs…to work. It takes me 5 minutes to get dressed in the morning. Literally 5 minutes. I love it.
- You can fart in your patients rooms. Bonus points if you do it while you’re cleaning up their poop, and blame it on them.
- Seeing new life come into the world. It’s literally a birthday party every day on the labor and delivery floor.
- Staying active. It’s really easy to stay fit when you’re on your feet all day, running from room to room and lifting patients for 12 hours.
- It’s easy to explain what I do to people. My dad had a really weird job growing up, and I never knew how to explain to people what he did. I would always default to “He’s a business man”. So I appreciate being able to sum up what I do in a few sentences, and generally people seem to respect it. Nursing is one of the most trusted professions, after all.
